Solar cell shingles: What to Look For

There are many things to consider when looking into a solar cell roof:

1. How much sun does your area, and specifically your own house's roof get each year, independent of the outside temperature? Consider any changes in foliage.

2. Where does your roof face - while ideally it would face east and west if it is a slanted roof. This is not absolutely necessary but should be taken into consideration.

3. What is the cost now, and projected cost of conventional electricity in your area? How long would it take for a solar roof to pay for itself?

4. What is the general attitude of home buyers in your area to renewable ("green") energy? If you might sell your home before you reap the savings, will your solar roof attract buyers?

If you do end up choosing to put in a solar cell roof at your home or business, you will be amazed at how efficient, aesthetically pleasing, and cost saving it is.
